What Are Window Screens and Why Do We Use Them?

Window screens are materials that are designed to cover an open window primarily for the purpose of keeping debris, leaves, insects, birds, and other animals from the entering the house or the building while letting the entry of fresh air. Window screens are most useful in areas where there is large mosquito or other insect populations. Installing window screens will allow the inhabitants of a house or a building to keep their windows open to let the sunlight and airflow without any fear of letting the dreaded insects in.

Different materials could be used in making window screens such as metal wire, fiberglass, or synthetic fiber mesh. These materials are stretched over a frame that is made of either metal or wood that exactly fits the window opening. Any gap between the window frame and the screen frame could be the entry point of the insects that the window screens are trying to prevent.
The most common and popular window screen materials are aluminum and fiberglass. Aluminum window screens are usually done in charcoal color, making them less visible. Fiberglass is also available in charcoal color which allow for more visibility and better appearance. Most window screens are now made of fiberglass because aside from being cheaper than aluminum, they do not dent which is the common problem with aluminum window screens.
